Welcome to the Admin Tools Wiki User Help page. This page is here to offer a central location for those who are participating with the development of this wiki to make general requests for help. For Administrator help, go here.

Note to users - Once a solution has been presented and implemented, please add the {{resolved|1=~~~~}} template with explanation (i.e., |1=), if the request has not already been archived. This is to help other users know when to archive completed requests.

Instructions

What this page is for

  • Coding help. Requesting help with writing templates, making a nice user page, or any questions on using wikitext can be asked here and users will help to the best of their ability.
  • Requests for non-administrative actions. If help is required with an action (e.g., moving a page), asking users here for help with that action is acceptable.
  • Questions on how the wiki works. All the policies and processes in use at Admin Tools Wiki may seem a little overwhelming at first. If you need help in understanding any of the policies, or more in depth instructions on a process, asking here is a good start.
  • Other questions to the users of the wiki. - While the {{help me}} template placed on your talkpage is an alternative, a simple question may be asked here for a quick response.
  • An all-in-one place to put things. Many of the Wiki's procedures are lesser-known, so putting a note here is a good way to do something if the correct procedure is not known.

What this page is not for

  • Requests for actions involving Administrator tools. Please use Administrator requests for such requests.
  • Larger discussion with other users on policies or other wide-ranging actions. The Noticeboard is a more suitable location to discuss larger changes to ATW's policies, procedures, and high-use templates.
  • General chat (about Admin Tools Wiki or not). General chat about Admin Tools Wiki (or an off-topic subject) should occur in user blogs or on talk pages.

Un-used Files

Yes check.svg Resolved: Authority(contrib's) 22:55, October 31, 2012 (UTC)

So, I was woundering, why the the Special:UnusedFiles is showing things that shouldn't be there like the Wiki-Wordmark and the silver padlock's the wikia uses to symbolise what level of protection is being used...— Authority(contrib's)

Thats because they are not being used on any articles. You may create a seperate article on your wiki for them and place all those on it.— UltimateSupreme (Talk) 11:49, October 30, 2012 (UTC)

Picture attribution (cont'd)

Yes check.svg Resolved: CSS for the win! Face-winkSpikeToronto 07:28, December 18, 2012 (UTC)

The following js also seems to do it for some wikis:

/* Remove image attribution */
$('.picture-attribution').remove();

Haven't tested it yet.— UltimateSupreme (Talk) 16:01, October 31, 2012 (UTC)

That is quite different. I haven’t seen that one. As you know, we do it with CSS here. Rappy often comments that anytime a goal can be achieved with CSS, choose that option over JS. By the way, this is ours here at ATW:
div.picture-attribution { display: none !important; }
aside.picture-attribution { display: none !important; }
.picture-attribution { display: none !important; }
I’m reprinting it here because the previous discussion on this topic is archived. Face-smile Thanks!SpikeToronto 10:24, November 2, 2012 (UTC)
Yup, because CSS is loaded faster than js. Also, CSS is always processed, JS can be disabled or break.— UltimateSupreme (Talk) 07:28, December 18, 2012 (UTC)

Hide "Around Wikia's Network"

Yes check.svg Resolved: Violative of Wikia’s ToU. — SpikeToronto 04:55, January 8, 2013 (UTC)

Hi I am a new user and have just set up a technical and advice Wiki and am impressed how it looks and operates but unfortunately I feel the "Around Wikia's Network" banner is not appropriate for the people that will be using the site. They will be primarily farmers looking for technical assistance or other staff looking for proceedure manuals.

Is there any way to hide or turn off the "Around Wikia's network" banner that normally appears at t he bottom of each page.

Many Thanks

Arthur Falconer

Hi. Even if thats possible, it would be against wikia's TOUs. ~ UltimateSupreme 03:22, January 7, 2013 (UTC)
I agree with UltimateSupreme. That is part of the corporate footer on each wiki. It would violate Wikia’s Terms of Use. For definite confirmation, you could contact Staff by using w:c:jgw:Special:Contact, at your new wiki, and enquiring into the matter. — SpikeToronto 06:34, January 7, 2013 (UTC)
thanks for that, I misunderstood corportate footer versus a full banner. No problem, Wikia is a great idea but not suitable for my use so I will move to another program for this initial project. I have a more community based need as well that i think will suit Wikia's style. 121.216.121.168 (talk) 21:58, January 7, 2013 (UTC)
Arthur, if this means you no longer need/want the wiki at w:c:jgw, you might want to let Wikia know so that it can be deleted. Just drop them a line via w:c:jgw:Special:Contact asking that it be deleted. Thanks! — SpikeToronto 04:55, January 8, 2013 (UTC)

CentralAuth

Hello,

I have the excact same problem. Could you tell me what did you do to get it to work. I dont quite understand it from your post. Sorry for being stupid if this is a stupid question, thanks

Hi Mikey. Welcome to Admin Tools Wiki!Face-grin You’ve done well finding one of our lad Jempcorp’s Internet homes: He is a Bureaucrat and Administrator here. However, it is not at this site that he solved the problem with the CentralAuth extension. At Wikia, only Staff would have access to those php files. Jempcorp works on other wiki sites and no doubt solved the problem at one of them.
I will leave a notification on his talk page here alerting him to this thread. Check back in a few days to see if he’s had an opportunity to reply. Face-smile Thanks!SpikeToronto 06:08, September 3, 2014 (UTC)
P.S. By the way, you may be better served using $wgSharedDB instead of CentralAuth (see the Attention niels epting Warning: at mw:Extension:CentralAuth). Face-smile Thanks!SpikeToronto 06:08, September 3, 2014 (UTC)
Thank you for replying my post. I have thought of $wgSharedDB, but as of my knowledge CentralAuth is the only way to have "auto login" feature to all wikis in my wikifamily. I could be wrong though. Could it be done with right cookie settings with ? I have followed the manuals pretty much step-by-step.
Also if you have done wikifamilys I would appreciate a hand in selecting between scenario 2 and 4. (mw:Manual:Wiki family). We chosed scenario 4, but we didnt build "poolwiki" we just linked the folders, in our case from English to German, and made few changes to database tables as guided. We are planning on building English and German wikis. I think making the right decision here would save us from future problems. I dont think there will be much traffic on our sites, but you never know :). Maybe we have to think about that aswell. And if some guys from other countrys want to join us, so adding new language sites etc.

Unfortunately, I do not know anything about this stuff. Face-sad I wish I could help. Have you tried leaving a support request over at mw:Project:Support desk? — SpikeToronto 17:36, September 4, 2014 (UTC)
No i havent asked from mw:Project:Support desk , but now, thanks to you, I will search from there. thanks —The preceding unsigned comment was added by Mikey J9 (talkcontribs) 18:33, September 4, 2014‎ (UTC).

Why am I not admin of the Wikia I just created?

(I think) I just created the Wikia Classic Menswear Wikia

I appear not to have admin status. I Googled this, and the two other cases of this occuring someone had accidentally taken over a blank and defunct Wikia and in the other case, the user had logged into an account other than the one he used to create the Wikia. I don't think either of these are occurring here.

Under my preferences, I just have the title "user" and "emailconfirmed" —The preceding unsigned comment was added by Claghorn (talkcontribs) 04:06, August 12, 2015‎ (UTC).

Please report this via Special:Contact. It is a known issue. Ω Rider ranger47 ][Talk Contributions ] 11:47, August 12, 2015 (UTC)
I can’t add anything to what Rider has said, except to say that you should instead use this link to contact Staff: w:c:classicmenswear:Special:Contact. Face-smile Thanks!SpikeToronto 00:29, August 15, 2015 (UTC)
You could also try w:Adoption:Requests.   — Jeff G. ツ 17:52, December 27, 2015 (UTC)
