This page documents an official policy on Admin Tools Wiki. It has wide acceptance among editors and is considered a standard that everyone should follow. Except for minor edits, please make use of the discussion page to propose changes to this policy. |
Administrators, commonly known as admins and also called sysops (system operators), are wiki editors who have access to technical features that help with maintenance. Different users have access to different functions of the site. While anyone can do most things on the site, including reading and editing, administrators can access a few additional functions. For a complete list of users who currently have administrator access, see Special:Listusers/sysop.

Administrative tools
Administrators have "tools" to do certain things that help with maintenance. See the administrators' how-to guide for a guide on using admin functions and tools. Administrators can wheel war (continuously and repeatedly revert admin actions) here at Admin Tools Wiki.
Deleting
Administrators can delete and undelete pages, page histories, and uploaded files. On other wikia, deletion is normally done to remove vandalism or not needed pages. On Admin Tools Wiki, deletion is also done to delete vandalism and not needed pages, but deletion can be done as tests, which mean administrators can delete any page as long as it doesn't have Category:Pages not to be tested on on it.
Protection
Administrators can protect and unprotect pages. On other wikia, protections are usually done to prevent vandalism or disruptive editing to certain pages. It is also done to protect widely used pages that have high-risk. On Admin Tools Wiki, protection is usually done as tests. This can be done to any page as long as it doesn't have Category:Pages not to be tested on on it.
Blocking
Administrators have the ability to block and unblock users from editing for a period of time depending on how long the blocking administrator adds a block from. On other wikia, blocks are usually done to prevent users from vandalizing or disruptive editing. On Admin Tools Wiki, blocks are usually done as tests. Though, real blocks might occur and could be needed, so blocks that are real shouldn't be undone. Blocking may be done via Special:Blockip.
Other
- Administrators can edit the interface by changing system messages and skins.
- Administrators have access to certain special pages that normal users don't have access to. These pages include: Special:Blockip, Special:DeletedContributions, Special:Import, Special:UnwatchedPages, Special:Undelete and Special:UserRights.
For more information on when and when not to use administrative tools, please refer to our Admin Tools Wiki:Testing policy.
Adminship
Bureaucrats have the ability to grant administrator permissions to users. Users can become an administrator by requesting it at requests for rights where bureaucrats can review your request or by asking a bureaucrat directly. Both methods will have a bureaucrat (or bureaucrats) review the request and decide if they will give you administrator permissions or not. Bureaucrats now have the ability to revoke adminship. In some cases, such as vandalism or misuse of the tools, administrators need to be revoked of their admin rights. This can be done by bureaucrats of Admin Tools Wiki and staff members of Wikia. A block may also be in order in this situation in extreme cases.
